Today is a federal holiday in the United States of America which commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

It’s commonly referred to as “The Fourth of July”, but I take exception to that term, it negates the history and meaning behind the holiday – it’s real name is “Independence Day“.
