Motorola Droid X Hardware Review

Following the unboxing, it’s time to take a deeper look at the hardware of the Motorola Droid X. As mentioned in the start of the video, the Droid seems to randomly make the “DROOIDDD!” sound while in standby. This probably has something to do with the the Droid X live wallpaper. Either way, it’s a bit weird.

Beyond that strange sound, the Droid X has a status indicator at the top, which informs you of new messages or missed calls. There are four hardware buttons below the screen, plus an additional hardware button on the right side of the device that acts as the camera button. On the side we have microUSB and microHDMI type D. You don’t have to wait until Verizon sells an expensive cradle or cable for the HDMI output. You can buy a type D microHDMI cable from eBay and save a lot of cash.

The Droid X has three microphones. Two of them are used for noise cancellation while making calls (and we’ll do a text of the noise cancellation like we did with the iPhone 4), and the third is used to focus the audio when filming video. Speaking of video, the Droid X can record 720p video, and can take images at 8MP. We’ll provide some video and photo samples in the upcoming full review.

Overall the Droid X has a good level of build quality, but it feels a bit cheap in hand because of it large size and light weight, but of course build quality is often a matter of personal opinion.

More coming soon on the Droid X!
