A hack over at XDA-Developers will enable the 802.11n capabilities from the WiFi chip on the Sprint HTC EVO 4G. The hack requires the HTC EVO 4G to be rooted. You can view the step-by-step instructions over at XDA-Developers. For those less inclined for hacking, there’s also a zip file that will allow you to do a manual installation of the proposed hack to activate the 802.11n radio.

While many current HTC Android smartphones support the faster wireless n protocol, the company has so far chosen to leave support of current builds of Android (2.1 and prior) due to the mobile OS not natively supporting it. The FCC has already approved wireless n standard inside the HTC Droid Incredible on rival carrier Verizon Wireless, which is rumored to come alongside Android 2.2 Froyo, which will have native n support.
