Curious how the next-generation iPhone 4 will feel like when it launches? Well Apple’s now releasing the iOS 4 operating system for older models–which include the iPhone 3G and 3GS–for download right now so you can explore coveted features such as “multitasking” and folder management of apps. Users are reporting that once they plug in their current iPhone into iTunes (version 9.2 is required), they are getting the option to update.

Apple is slated to begin shipping the iPhone 4 models starting Thursday, June 24th. With its iPhone 4 announcement at WWDC earlier this month, Steve Jobs noted that Apple has renamed its operating system from iPhone OS 4 to iOS 4, denoting that the mobile OS is now used on many devices that aren’t iPhones, which include the company’s iPod Touch line as well as the new iPad tablet computer.
