Motorola i1 Launches as iDEN’s First Android Rugged PTT Device
The Motorola i1 is an attractive, slim Android smartphone, a first for iDEN. The device is now available on SouthernLINC Wireless for $200 on a 2-year agreement; Sprint-Nextel will also be picking up the device sometime this summer.
The i1 offers push-to-talk, a hallmark of the iDEN network. Additional features include a scratch resistant 3.1-inch HVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and memory card support. The phone is shock-, dust-, and weather-proof to meet military-grade specifications. For those who work in extreme environments, this may be the smartphone to look into.
If you are in a SouthernLINC service area, you can check out the carrier’s webpage to order now. For all others who are interested, you can wait for Sprint. The handset is said to launch on Sprint’s prepaid Boost Mobile brand, though pricing information isn’t known at this time for Boost Mobile.
