PayPal Coming Soon For App Purchases From Android Market, iPhone App Store

Google Android Market and Apple’s iPhone/iPod/iPad App Store will soon be accepting PayPal as a form of payment for those unwilling to surrender their credit card information.

The move to accept PayPal is a little bit surprising for Google, who has a competing Google Checkout service that integrates with your Google or Gmail user ID and the Android Market. Google Checkout works in a similar way to PayPal in that it allows users to shop at merchants willing to accept Google Checkout as a form of payment so that consumers don’t have to hand over their credit card information. Whatever the case may be, it seems that Google may think there’s a larger user base on PayPal than it’s home grown solution. With both PayPal and Google Checkout, you just associate a bank account or credit card with the service and when you pay at participating online retailers, you just log in with your Google or PayPal ID.

The move to accept PayPal will occur sometime within this quarter at both Google’s and Apple’s application marketplace. Customers in U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Italy, Netherlands and Australia will soon have the option to pay for apps with PayPal when things get integrated.
