BlackBerry 6 Coming Q3 for Touchscreen, Non-Touchscreen
Research in Motion took the wraps off of BlackBerry 6, the next generation BlackBerry operating system that was caught in photos a little while ago.The new OS will be launching in Q3 on new devices and may show up as upgrades to some current devices if the hardware can take it. The OS was demoed at WES–Research in Motion’s developer’s conference–with the touchscreen UI though BlackBerry 6 can run on a non-touch interface, which dominates RIM’s lineup and includes the newly unveiled Sprint BlackBerry Bold 9650.
According to RIM, BlackBerry 6 will feature a Webkit rendering engine that will make it easy for apps and developers to adopt Webkit-based apps for BlackBerry phones. Furthermore, the Webkit is said to be deeply integrated within the OS, so that means that you will need BlackBerry 6 to have the Webkit browser; devices running BlackBerry OS 5 and prior cannot just download the new RIM Webkit browser.
