How Many Data Plans Do You Have?
In a world where convergence has led to consumers owning multiple internet-connected devices, we’re wondering how many data plans would you subscribe to.
The question is prompted partly by AT&T’s head, Randall Stephenson, who responded to a question regarding Apple’s iPad and its contract-less data plan for the internet tablet. According to Stephenson, who views the WiFi-only model of the iPad–iPad models with WiFi & 3G carry a $130 premium in the US–as the best value as customers may not want to have more than one data plan:
ur expectation is that it is there’s not going to be a lot of people out there looking for one more subscription revenue stream to put on our network, as a result of an iPad. We think it is going to be a largely Wi-Fi driven product. And that is why you see the pricing of the model to be one that is prepaid in nature.
AT&T seems to be realistic in its expectation, though its curious why the company didn’t chalk up its PCWorld performance win.
