Nokia to Bring Touchscreen Technology, Dual SIM to S40 Platform
The S40 platform is the most widely used phone operating system in the world and is not based on Symbian unlike the Nokia S60 OS. A leaked document from Nokia indicates that the world’s largest phone maker may be bringing touchscreen technology to the S40 platform. Nokia has already implemented touchscreen technologies on a number of S60 handsets, including the Nokia Xpressmusic 5800 smartphone–the company’s response to the iPhone–the N97 and N97 Mini. The move to bring touchscreen-based S40 handsets would give Nokia a more diversified product lineup as well as bring some high-end phone functionality to its feature phone, mid-tier lineup. Additionally, the leaked document also notes that Nokia may also bring more dual SIM phones to the market, benefiting frequent travelers so that they would not need to constantly swap out their SIM cards.
