What’s the Perfect Screen Size for a Touchscreen Phone?

Over the years, we’ve seen screen sizes trend from large–for its time–3.5-inch touchscreen display of the Blue Angel, one of the earlier widely popular smartphones from HTC, evolve to the popular 2.8-inch found on device’s like the Touch Pro and then back to the larger screen size on the Touch Pro2 and the HTC HD2. On other device’s, we’ve seen small square screens on the Palm Treos to 3.7-inch Droid displays that’s slim and narrow to a possible 5-inch display that straddles the category of large phone to mini tablet on the Dell Mini 5 prototypes.

The question then becomes what screen size is optimal in an age of finger-friendliness, consumption of all things media, and an all-in-one device that has to be pocketable and friendly enough to do many things to many people?
