MWC: The Ultimate Couch-Surfing Phone–Lumigon’s Android Phones Sport Consumer IR to Control Your TV
Couch potatoes and phone geeks rejoice–Lumigon, a Denmark firm, has announced three Android 2.1 handsets that will sport consumer IR ports, which makes them the perfect TV surfing tool to turn your phone into a touchscreen universal remote control for your home entertainment needs. The first two models, the T1 and S1, rely on similar design builds with the former sporting a tablet form factor and the latter carrying a portrait slider to reveal a T9 keyboard–much like some some of Sony Ericsson’s phones from circa 2002. Aside from the coveted universal remote feature, other specs include Android 2.1 as the OS, a processor made by Freescale, 720p output over HDMI for viewing the phone’s content over an HDTV, FM tuner and transmitter. There’s also an E1 model, which will feature some unique navigational capabilities, though the exact details and pictures were not released. The E1 seems squarely targeted at Nuvifone handsets made by the Garmin-Asus partnership.
