webOS Unofficial Tethering App Doesn’t Require Special Data Plan

The Mobile Hotspot app that debuted on the Verizon Wireless Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus requires a special tethering add-on that costs $40 per month for the ability to turn your webOS device(s) into a mobile hotspot and share your Verizon Wireless mobile broadband conenction with up to five other devices. Those who do not want to fork out the extra $40 per month can look towards unofficial solutions, such as the MyTether app, which is a “homebrew” app, which requires some hackery similar to the iPhone jailbreak process. The app costs a one-time charge of $15 for the privilege of tethering, which is a bargain compared to $40 monthly, but then you may be violating your carrier’s terms of service and may invalidate your Palm warranty with the homebrew method, so proceed with caution.
