AMOLED Displays Now Performing Better in Direct Sunlight

One of the chief complaints about AMOLED and OLED display technologies is that they do not perform as well under direct sunlight as their LCD counterpart, with the former two having washed out, unreadable screens. We have witnessed that to a certain degree with the GSM Omnia II when the Samsung device initially launched. However, it seems that this may not be case anymore as the Omnia II is pitted against the LCD of the Nokia N900 and the AMOLED display performs quite well, besting the N900 under the bright sun. I had found both to be quite usable under examination under the cloudy skies of the San Francisco Bay Area–we haven’t had much sun here recently–and the viewing angle that was shot may be a bit deceptive.
