According to the Engadget Show, which interviewed Ballmer recently: “For Zune he says Windows Mobile is going to get integration in the next release — which is a comforting thought, if perhaps a bit late.” Since even before Windows Mobile 6.5 was released, there have been many rumors of Zune integration with Windows Mobile. In fact, Ballmer had previously confirmed those rumors, but it wasn’t until the recent Engadget Show that Ballmer made a specific iteration that Zune will be coming to the next version of Windows Mobile. Before that, the timing of Zune meeting with Windows Mobile has been unclear.
Since the release of the Zune HD, the press has been very warm to the mobile browsing experience on the Zune. In fact, many in the Windows Mobile camp have been waiting for the multitouch experience that the Zune HD brought. To a certain degree, the HTC HD2 delivers in this regard, although official capacitive touchscreen support is not delivered by Microsoft (Windows Mobile 6.5 still does not natively support capacitive touch) and is rather implemented independently by HTC.
