HTC Hero Widget Tour

In this video we cover the widget component of HTC’s Sense UI on the Hero.

The widget interface on the Hero is quite similar to that on the Samsung Omnia II. You have up to seven screens on which to place widgets. You can use the typical Android widgets, or you can use a handful of new ones that HTC has provided such as calendar, photo gallery, weather, and an email viewer. A lot of these widgets are quite reminiscent with what you find in TouchFLO 3D on Windows Mobile device from HTC. As we’ll see in upcoming videos, the Sense UI/TouchFLO 3D similarities become even more prevalent as you drill deeper into the operating system.

While the seven homescreens allow for an ample amount of customization, they are also difficult to navigate. If you’re on the first homescreen and you want to jump to the last, it takes many swipe gestures. There should be a way to quickly jump around. Also, if you load up all seven screens with widgets, the device can get a bit sluggish.

We’ll be back soon with more on the Hero!
