Is Microsoft Innovating for Sidekick before Windows Mobile With Greater Screens?
According to a Twitter posting by our own editor @AntonDNagy, Windows Mobile will support a display capable of greater resolution than the WVGA found on the Touch HD (wiki link) and the XPERIA X1 at 480 X 800 pixels. According to Anton, Windows Mobile 6.5 will be capable of supporting full wide video graphics array, or FWVGA, at 480 X 854 pixels–which is 54 pixels more in the longer direction than the WVGA screens that are becoming popular with the new Diamond2.
What’s significant is that this feature has been announced for some time on the Sidekick LX 2009 model, which supports a crisp 854 X 480 FWVGA screen according to Engadget Mobile. Microsoft is also the owner of the Danger company, which manufactures the Sidekick, and the Windows Mobile platform. With devices already slated by HTC for the WVGA resolution, it may be some time more before we see FWVGA screens hit Windows Mobile.
Enjoy the view of FWVGA in the photo below, which illustrates the screen’s capaciousness.
