A Screen on Your Keyboard?
Who would have thought you can have a screen on your keyboard? Soft input panels (SIP) are nothing new in that they would display the keyboard inside a screen a la Windows Mobile and the famous iPhone keyboard. However, Optimus is going to take it up a notch with the Tactus keyboard–a full size keyboard designed on a large touchscreen panel.
According to The Boy Genius Report, the keyboard keys can be configured and changed. This would make it easy to move from a QWERTY to an AZERTY layout or have Final Cut Pro video editing shortcut keys appear when you need them without having to get a keyboard overlay or a whole separate keyboard.
The Boy Genius Report is also envisioning other uses for the keyboard, including having the Optimus Tactus function as an internet tablet, kind of like the Nokia tablets. The Boy Genius Report can see one day having the keyboard replacing mouse, monitor, and traditional keyboards, including using the keyboard as a second display.
The deal breaker here is whether or not the Tactus will have tactile feedback.
