Device Shortage from HTC Expected
According to a report from Engadget Mobile, Windows Mobile manufacturer HTC is expecting to only receive about seventy (70) percent of its Qualcomm chips in the coming year. HTC is currently the largest Windows Mobile manufacturer currently and the shortage could mean less new models released. HTC is expecting to earn 38.5% less in the first quarter 2008 than the fourth quarter 2007 due to the shortage of Qualcomm chips.
HTC currently uses the Qualcomm multi-module chip to power its smartphone as the Qualcomm chip can handle the radio as well as the processing power for the PDA functions. Recent Qualcomm chips in the popular HTC TyTN II also provide GPS functionality in a single chip design, conserving power consumption.
