My Computer Crashed Today…

I woke up this morning to my computer stuck at the screen “Windows Has Failed to Start” with a choice of Safe Mode, etc. Choosing any of these options caused the computer to restart.

I went out for the day, and came back, hoping to resolve the issue with the Vista Repair console after booting . No such luck, it didn’t find anything.

To make a long story short – this is my fault. Every time my computer boots up, I get a listing of my drives. I have two drives in RAID 0, and one for storage. Listed under one of the RAID 0 drives was the text “Problem Occured.” I ignored this for weeks, thinking that the error couldn’t be serious if my computer was operable. I should have taken the warning seriously. I’m using 10,000rpm Raptors; apparently they have a smart chip on them that can sense impending problems.

I have backups of almost everything – the annoyance now is setting up everything to the way it was before.

Moral of the story – don’t ignore your computer when it waves a red flag. And as always, backup backup backup!
