Samsung SCH-i600 CDMA Smartphone Available

The Samsung SCH-i600 CDMA Smartphone is available now. I got the chance to try one at my local Verizon store. So what did I think?

Well, I think it’s very cool. I like clamshell phones, and this seems like a good one. The size wasn’t bad, and the keypad felt decent. The two “soft” buttons were a bit difficult to hit all the time because the home and back buttons are right below them.

Just for fun, I took my 256 MB SD card out of my iPAQ 3870 and put it in the i600. I started playing some Linkin Park and one woman in the store thought that was very cool. When I showed her one of the BMW videos on the screen, she really wanted the phone. When I told her it was $500, she was less interested, but, if you want a phone with a great “wow” factor, take a look at the i600.

After playing with the i600 and the Samsung SPH-i700 Pocket PC Phone Edition device, I’m torn about which one I’d rather have. The i600 is nice and small, but that means it has a small screen. Also, there isn’t as much Smartphone software out there now.

The i700 has a nice screen, a built-in camera and should run most Pocket PC software. However, it’s not a clamshell phone, and is larger than the i600 (about the size of my iPAQ 3870; not huge, but bigger than most phones).

If you want a converged PDA/phone device, would you get a Smartphone or a Pocket PC Phone? Tell us your thoughts in the discussion.
