New Resolutions for Pocket PCs and Smartphones?
There will be a presentation today at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference that will discuss “…hardware innovations in screen resolutions, orientations, and related capabilities and development tools.”
It is speculated that Smartphones will support 240×320, up from the current 176×220. Also, the Toshiba e800 may not be alone, as Pocket PCs will support 640×480. The Source link gives even more information.
I hope that developing software for Pocket PCs won’t get significantly more complicated if the developer can’t count on a specific resolution. I’ve read the developer’s section for the NYDITOT Virtual Display, and that required either shipping resources for both portrait and landscape orientation or laying out your dialogs dynamically.
Of course, we really don’t care how hard it is for the developers if we can get better resolution, do we?
